Seen in the Real World: Nerds

I chose Nerds for a design seen in the real world because of the bright colors. There is a large variety of vibrant colors to demonstrate that it is the rainbow version of Nerds. This is a candy that is supposed to be appealing to children (and me), so there are lots of fun shapes and characters. It has a playful composition to draw in children who see this sugary candy in the candy aisle. The Nerds mascots, which look like frogs, have very positive facial expressions. They are seen around the title and provide the character sense that children are easily drawn in by. Behind the title, Nerds, there are fun shapes that highlight the name of the candy. These are dark colors, which make the white words pop.

  1. I agree with your statements about the logo being colorful and eye-catching. This is certainly a marketing tactic knowing that their audience is primarily children. Children love flashy bright colored objects and having their brand being identified through bright fun text is certainly the way to go about designing their logo. I like how you refer to the little creatures as frogs, because I honestly had to sit back for a second and think about it since I hadn’t seen that at first. I get where you’re coming from though. I think design wise they are supposed to be the candy itself with eyes slapped on them for a cute factor. This logo gives me fun and bubbly vibes and as a kid targeted candy I will certainly say that they have reached their intended audience with this design.

  2. I really enjoy the fun and eye catching colors that they use in their branding. I also really enjoy the little nerd characters that surround the logo and make appearances in other marketing for the nerds brand. I think this along with the colors used are crucial to grabbing the attention of the kids who are the main audience being sold this product.
